Unless you have an exemption, all cats and dogs in NSW must be microchipped before they’re 12 weeks old or prior to being sold. This is to help reunite pet owners with their fur babies should they get lost or handed into a shelter.
At Killarney Veterinary Clinic on the Central Coast, we conduct pet microchipping procedures and can do so during regular health consultations. We’re also more than happy to scan your pet’s microchip and provide you with their identification number. This is useful if you need it to update your contact details on animal registration databases.

A microchip is a tiny computer chip that contains information about your pet. It is important to have your pet microchipped because it provides a way to identify them if they become lost or stolen. If your pet is found by someone, they can take them to a shelter or vet and have them scanned for a microchip. If your pet has a microchip, the shelter or vet will be able to contact you and return your pet to you.
There are many benefits to microchipping your pet, but it is especially important if you have a pet that is not easily identifiable (such as a black cat or a dog with no markings). Microchipping is quick, easy and gives you peace of mind.
